Lindsey Blommers
Class of 2023
Pella, Iowa

Why did you chose Central?

I graduated from DMACC the year after high school, so afterwards I needed a new school to attend in order to get my Bachelor’s degree. Then, my life-long swim coach was hired as the head triathlon coach at Central and she recruited me. I just can’t get enough of Pella.

Favorite professor and why?

My two favorites are my accounting professors, Maggie and Crystal. We’re on a first name basis.

You’re majoring in accounting because?

I chose to major in accounting because I had my first accounting class as a senior in high school and I enjoyed it, so I decided to stick with it. I am a left-brain, detail-orientated person, so the numbers and rules of accounting just make sense to me. I would also say I have a real passion for Excel spreadsheets.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

This semester I was involved in a service learning-based class called VITA. It was a tax class where we prepared tax returns for lower income families and individuals at our clinics. I really enjoyed being a part of the class and gaining experience in taxes while also being able to help students and people in the community. Key take away is don’t go to H&R Block. Go to VITA.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

Zach Bryan is definitely one of my favorite artists. There’s really not a song of his that I don’t like- I could listen to his music all day. Doja Cat and Drake are my two go-to’s for triathlon. I’ve been a Champagne Papi stan since 2016.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

Attending Central and playing a sport has impacted my life because I’ve learned how to set goals and how to put in the effort to achieve them. Whether it’s in the classroom and or at practice, I’m always trying to improve so I can be a better version of myself and make the most out of my time here. I have also been impacted by all the people I’ve met at Central. I appreciate that my professors genuinely care about me and my future, and I’m grateful for all the friendships that started here but will continue on after we leave.

Which of the three parts of triathlon is your favorite? Least favorite?

The different disciplines, for the most part, are equal in my eyes. During a race, they are all pretty brutal. However, I would say biking would be my favorite because it gives me a chance to catch my breath after the swim and try to pump myself up before the run. My least favorite part would be the transitions between the different parts. Your time can really add up during transitions, so you have to make sure you’re going fast from the swim into the bike and from the bike into the run.
Sometimes though during transition, your legs stop working while you’re trying to dismount your bike and you just tip right on over while your feet are still clipped into the pedals. But I don’t know that from personal experience.

Favorite movie?

The Other Guys. I’ve probably seen that movie one too many times but it’s definitely a classic for me.

Who do you admire the most?

I admire my mother a lot. She has always supported me through every path I’ve taken and during every chapter of my life. She has shaped me into the woman I am today and I am very grateful for her. Couldn’t do life without her.

What is your favorite gas station snack?

Anything with caffeine. Coffee, Redbull, Celsius, Monster- you name it. I’ve been trying to cut down my caffeine intake for a while now, but so far mission unaccomplished.

Favorite TV Show

Right now, I’m really into Yellowstone and I just binged all the seasons. So if I drop out and move to Montana, that should come as a shock to no one.

What’s it like to compete for Coach Hedrick-Rozenberg?

Jennie has been my coach ever since I was 7 years old. I grew up swimming on the rec swim team and joined the club team in 8th grade. She is basically my second mother. When I quit swimming after high school, it was hard because I was closing such a big chapter of my life. So I was very excited about the opportunity to give triathlon a try, especially with Jennie as my coach.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the women’s triathlon team at Central College?

My favorite part about being a member of the women's triathlon team is my teammates. We have such a fun group of girls and each one of us contributes something to the team. We always encourage one another and push each other out of our comfort zones in practice. We never fail to make each other laugh either, which can make some of the more challenging practices enjoyable.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

10 years from now I hope that I have established a career in a job that I truly enjoy. I really hope to be a mom with little kiddos running around. I also wouldn’t mind being an NFL wife, but mostly the job and the mom thing.
