Nick Scott
Fort Benton, Mont.
Class of 2024
Why did you choose Central?
I chose Central as a new experience in life because I lived in Montana my whole life and was fortunate enough to further my tennis career under Head Coach Ryun Ferrell. Getting away from the colder weather was another reason as well.
Favorite professor and why?
This a tricky question to answer because I have had many professors that I enjoyed throughout my time at Central, but If I had to pick one would have to be either Professor Andrew Green in the Political Science department because he made learning the basics of politics fun and engaging. The other would have to be Professor Brad Hopkins, who taught Business Law on Wednesday nights. He made the class very relaxed because it was a class that ran for three hours at night.
You’re majoring in Business Management because?
I chose this major because I thought it would be a good career field to get me into where I want to be, which is a tennis teaching pro. I have wanted to teach tennis since I was very young.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
I am a part of the rocket league club under fellow teammate Matthew Den Adel and the pickleball club because I wanted to participate in some events that are a part of my life.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
I have so many that are hard to name or pick artists because of my mother. She exposed me to so much variety in my musical choices that I cannot genuinely sway one genre over another. When preparing for a meet, it would be for hip-hop/rap, but listening would have to be rock/alternative metal.
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
It has taught me more life lessons. For example, I have a terrible academic day, which must translate into good practice because bad things happen. We cannot allow those things to affect us for the rest of our lives. The famous quote that explains what I mean is the quote by Rocky Balboa about how hard you can get hit and still stand up.
What does every in Iowa misunderstand about Montana?
Man, you would have to ask all my friends and teammates to answer this. When they complain about the weather being cold, I will walk around outside in a t-shirt and shorts while everyone else is wrapped up in their coats, jackets, and sweatpants.
You could be a doubles partner with any professional player; whom would you choose and why?
Now, we are getting to an honest debate. I have three partners I would love to play with for different reasons. The first would have to be Andy Roddick, as he has been my favorite American player since I was very young growing up watching him. Second would have to be Pete Sampras because he taught me the most significant part of my tennis game, the Serve and Volley technique. Lastly, It would have to be arguably the greatest player of all-time Roger Federer for the fact that watching him over the years has been an inspiration and drive to be like where everything I do is smooth as butter
Favorite sport to watch/play besides tennis?
Hands down to watch is going to be Football. It is just something nice to connect with the family. If it is not tennis, it will be Golf because I can’t get in trouble for hitting the balls as hard and far as I want.
Teammate who deserves their own realty show?
There are a couple of players that come to mind, but after spending time with them, I have to go with Ayden Fletcher. The name I already can see in my head is “Dawg Talk with Ayden,” where we sit and talk about sports and other nonsense that sometimes you can’t get in different conversations with people.
Favorite TV Show
I am a man who is more the animated styles of TV shows such as Naruto and Dragonball. I am very into other shows, such as Family Guy and American Dad, because I occasionally like a little crude humor. I am a man who is more of classic movies such as The Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile instead of TV shows.
What’s it like to play for Coach Ferrell?
This may get me in trouble later at practice, but not many times; it is good because I matured a lot more than when I first started. The best way I would describe the feeling is watching a tornado on the road in the country destroying someone else’s property, but secretly, one is starting to develop behind you. Meaning that whether I think I am safe from his wrath, I can’t let my guard down, or he will catch me, and I won’t know where to turn to avoid the destruction.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central tennis?
I am very grateful to be a part of a legacy that has developed such great talent, and the level of competition is always high. It is also nice to have lovely of men in your corner for support whenever needed.
What do you hope to be doing ten years from now?
I plan to further my tennis career by getting my teaching license and playing across the country, hoping to make it good enough to start a professional run in the world.
