Alli Kreider
Norwalk, Iowa
Class of 2024
Why did you choose Central?
I chose Central because of the atmosphere around campus, and I knew I could be successful in the classroom and athletics.
Favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor would probably have to be Tuan because of how relaxed the classroom atmosphere is. We play the Daily Jeopardy, Mini Crossword, and Triviaverse on Netflix each day to start class. You never know what to expect which is the best part.
You’re majoring in Actuarial Science and Economics because?
When I was in 8th grade, I loved math and I liked to spend my parents’ money on expensive things. My dad showed me what actuaries do (and more importantly, their salary) and I’ve stuck with it ever since. Econ just keeps me busy and it’s pretty interesting.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
Aside from tennis, I am a representative for the women’s team in SAAC. I also tutor and lead SI sessions.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
Definitely Ian Munsick, I like to think of him as my grandson. Other than that, I’d say any song I can karaoke to.
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
It helps with time management for sure. Tennis has also made me more responsible (at least I’d like to think).
Which of the four tennis majors do you most want to attend?
Easy, Wimbledon.
Did you have an imaginary friend as a kid? What was their name?
At some point I’m sure I did, but I was more attached to my stuffed animal named Panda. He was a panda.
What’s the worst piece of advice you’ve ever received?
That it isn’t worth it to pick up coins on the ground. I beg to differ. Assuming that it takes you one second to pick up a penny, that translates to 60 cents per minute, or $36/hour. Doing this 40 hour per week for 52 weeks per year would be a salary of $74,880 (taxes non-existent of course). That’s a pretty good gig if you ask me.
What’s your most embarrassing moment on a tennis court?
I was doing a “Go Big Red” and had a MAJOR voice crack. It was pretty humbling.
Favorite TV Show
The Office, hands down
What’s it like to play for Coach Ferrell?
He listens to what everyone has to say and goes from there. Practices are always upbeat and fun. You have to be on your toes, but it’s a fun environment to be in.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central tennis?
Tennis has brought me some very close friends over the past three years.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
Ten years from now, I hope to have a steady income. I plan on just going with the flow and everything should work out.
Favorite food from Central Market
Bourbon chicken for a meal, but CUIFS has some fantastic cheese curds sometimes.
Bucket list
I want to go to all four major tennis tournaments, going to space would be pretty cool, too. I also want to ski at Portes du Soleil between France and Switzerland.
