Pella, Iowa

Why did you chose Central?

To be completely honest, I did not want to go to Central at first because I grew up in Pella and wanted somewhere away from home. However, my mom made me take a visit, which is when I started to warm up to the idea. I had an overnight visit, went to softball camp in the summer, and slowly fell in love with the college. All in all, I chose Central because I loved the education program, the softball program, the culture of campus, and so many other aspects that made it feel like I would belong there.

Favorite professor and why?

Tammy Strawser from the education department. She has a spunky personality and connects with you on a personal level. She is understanding of circumstances, but wants to see you succeed at your highest level. She is an overall amazing professor and human being.

You’re majoring in elementary education because?

I have wanted to be a teacher ever since middle school, so I really haven’t thought of myself as anything else. I also love working with students and helping them grow as people.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

Academically, I’m involved in Central Teacher Academy (CTA). I am also involved in Bridge Club, Board Game Club, and Ultimate Frisbee Club.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

I don’t really have any specific artists I listen to. I listen to a variety of music from the 70’s-00’s. If I am trying to study, my go-to music is classical or Viking music.

What are you summer plans for 2020?

My summer plans are to babysit and umpire for Little League until I start teaching in the fall.

What’s the weirdest dream you have ever had?

Honestly, I am of the opinion that my version of weird dreams pale in comparison to others. However, in a recently weird dream, I was trying to escape people on a ship that was trying to go through land. This whole time, we were fighting Narnia-like creatures to get through. Then I woke up.

Favorite knock knock joke?

I don’t have a favorite knock knock joke, but this one is most definitely my humor:
Knock, knock?
Who’s there?
Tank
Tank who?
You’re welcome.

What was the happiest moment in your life?

The happiest moment for me was probably when I came home from being abroad. While I loved the experience and the people I met abroad, I was ready to be home and see my family.

Best place to eat in Pella?

Dutch Fix. It is literally Tulip Time all year round.

Favorite TV Show

The Good Place. Kristen Bell is amazing!

What’s it like to compete for Coach Wares?

It’s very intense, but that’s because he’s pushing you to be the best you can be. He cares about us as people and what makes us unique off the field, yet pushes us to excel as players. He expects passion and the full effort you can give in every moment. He tries to get us to step outside our box so we are comfortable in every situation. As a person who has high expectations for themselves, having someone who expects a lot helps push me to be better.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central softball?

My favorite part about being a member of Central softball is the respect we have for one another. We are all there to support each other on the field and our endeavors off the field. Everyone isn’t best friends with one another, but we all have a mutual respect for each other as people and players. It’s such a refreshing feeling.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

Ten years from now, I hope to be teaching 5th grade math and science somewhere. Hopefully, I’ll be married and have kids.

Favorite food from Central Market

It’s an odd choice, but bean and cheese quesadillas are so simple and so yummy.

Bucket list

Learn sign language, visit elephants in Thailand, scuba dive, and watch an ice skating competition.
