Why did you choose Central?

I chose Central because of the kinesiology department, women’s basketball team, and the comfort I felt on campus. Central was actually my very first visit, and every school I went to after never quite compared. I loved the town of Pella and the small, welcoming campus. It really felt like home to me, and I knew it was a place where I could succeed academically and athletically.

Favorite professor and why?

It’s extremely hard for me to pick just one favorite professor because I’ve had so many great ones, especially in the kinesiology department. I think that’s one of the greatest things about Central – your professors all care about you and want to create relationships. However, if I had to pick one, it would be Katelin Valster. I took anatomy with her my freshman year and loved it. I knew I made the right choice majoring in kinesiology. She’s an amazing professor and always keeps class engaging. She also cares about all of her students and supports them outside of class. She is my advisor now, and I’m so lucky to have her guidance as I begin applying to graduate programs.

You’re majoring in kinesiology because?

I plan to attend graduate school for physical therapy. I chose the kinesiology route because of the emphasis on anatomy, hands-on learning, and incredible professors.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

I stay very busy! I’m a resident advisor in Scholte, a supplemental instructor for anatomy, and a circulation assistant at Geisler Library. I’m also a member of FCA. In the spring, I plan to assist with Dr. Shuger Fox’s nutrition research as well.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

I definitely prefer music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. My go-to artists are the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

Central has provided me with amazing opportunities and relationships. At the Division III level, I am thankful to be involved in so many things. I have grown a lot through academics, athletics, extracurriculars, and work experience. Overall, Central has prepared me for life ahead and surrounded me with some awesome people.

What is your favorite animal and why?

My favorite animal is my yellow Labrador retriever, Maggie, at home. I grew up with another yellow lab named Maya, who just recently passed away. They have both been the most amazing family dogs! It would be hard for me to think of getting any other kind of dog.

Favorite professional sports team?

I would say the Chicago Cubs, but in all honesty, I prefer watching collegiate sports. Go Hawks!

If you could live anywhere, where would you choose?

I really love Northern Wisconsin, but I just hope to live close to my family.

Best Central memory so far?

One of my favorite memories in Pella is running the Klompen Classic (5k) with my friends during Tulip Time. A lot of Central students run in the race, so it’s fun to see everyone. The community support is amazing too, and there are always so many people watching and cheering.

11. Favorite TV Show

My all-time favorite TV show would have to be Friends.

What’s it like to play for Coach Weiland?

I really enjoy playing for Coach Weiland because he always has confidence in our team. He’s great about encouraging us to shoot the ball and play freely. He also challenges us in practice and gives us the opportunity to try new things. I feel like I have really grown as a player in his system. I also like that he asks for our input. He is always willing to talk about game plans or basketball strategy.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Central basketball team?

My favorite part about being a member of the basketball team is the relationship I share with my former and current teammates. Through good times and bad, my teammates have been there for me. We spend a lot of time together, especially during winter break when there’s not much to do! Central basketball has brought me so many lifelong friends!

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

I hope to be married with a few kids, living close to my current family, and working as a physical therapist. If time allows, I would also like to coach HS basketball.

Favorite Food from Central Market

I’d have to say orange chicken with rice or the chicken bacon ranch pasta bar.
