Caleb Douglass
Windsor, Colo.
Class of 2025

Why did you chose Central?

I chose to come to Central for the athletic and academic programs. Playing baseball and being a student at Central College have taught me many valuable skills that I don’t think I would have learned anywhere else.

Favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor at Central is Dr. Martisovits. Dr. Martisovits has been very supportive and dedicated to mine and all his students’ success, inside and outside of the classroom. I am very thankful to have had him as an advisor and professor.

You’re majoring in _Engineering because?

I am majoring in Engineering because I have always had a love for learning how things work. I have always enjoyed my math and sciences, so pursuing engineering allows me to enjoy both.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

I am involved in a Bible study with my teammates and we come together to learn how to live like Jesus. Outside of that, baseball and engineering have kept me busy.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

Typically, I bounce around from artist to artist, but I really enjoy country music. Right now, I am really digging Gavin Adcock, Treaty Oak Revival and Kashus Culpepper. My all-time favorites are Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

Attending Central and playing baseball has had a profound impact on my life. I have learned to be a problem solver, properly manage a busy schedule and learn how to have a healthy balance between school/baseball and personal time.

Favorite Rockies game you’ve been to?

While the Rockies haven’t been all that great for most of the time I have been alive, I did have the opportunity to be at most of the home games for the Rockies 2007 Postseason run. While I was young, I have some memories of the games from that year. One being their Wildcard Tiebreaker game, which was a single game against the Padres to break their tied record for the final Wildcard spot in the Playoffs. The game went into extra innings and is one of the most iconic games in Rockies history.

Favorite sport outside of baseball?

Currently I really enjoy playing pickleball when I have some free time. A few of my teammates and I will go and play when we can. We’ve started to get pretty competitive while playing and that always makes things more fun.

Best part about being a catcher?

My favorite part about being a catcher is being involved in every play. Typically, the catcher is compared to the Quarterback in football, we see the entire field and touch the ball almost every pitch. I also really enjoy working with the pitchers in games. Calling pitches is a craft and a game within the game, trying to fool the batter and throwing him off balance on each pitch.

What was your dream job growing up?

My dream job growing up was to be a professional athlete, as many young kids’ dreams are. With the professional athlete dream out of the picture, I am happy to become an engineer.

Favorite TV Show

I am not a huge TV show watcher. When I have time to watch TV, its typically a movie, and my favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption.

What’s it like to play for Coach Carey?

It has been a great experience to play for Coach Carey. I am super blessed to have him as a coach, and he has taught me a lot about myself that I don’t think many other coaches could have. I am super thankful for all he has done to change the culture of the baseball team and the growth we have made because of him.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Central baseball team?

My favorite part of being a member of the Central baseball team is being around all the guys. I have made a lot of memories with them, and I am super thankful to have a group of guys who want not only success for themselves but even more so for the guy next to them.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

Ten years from now I hope I am married, have children and am living life to the fullest. It is tough to tell exactly what that looks like, but having a family is at the center of it.

Favorite food from Central Market

My favorite meal from Central Market is Under the Sea Tacos. I get a lot of grief over this from my buddies, but personally this is my favorite.

Bucket list

The number one thing on my bucket list is to visit all the MLB ball parks. I have only been to five of the thirty, being the Rockies, Padres, Yankees, Phillies, and Mariners, but I would really like to be able to see them all.
