Emma Jensen
Earlham, Iowa
Class of 2025

Why did you choose Central?

I chose Central because of the sense of community. The small classroom sizes really allow me to connect with my professors and classmates. I also chose Central because of the softball program. I wanted to play on a highly competitive team and I knew Central Softball had a great culture.

Favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor is Dr. Sugar Fox. Her classes interest me a lot and are always entertaining. I’ve also spent a lot of time with her doing research or working on things for the Ski Club. She is someone I feel I can come to with anything.

You’re majoring in kinesiology because?

I have always been super interested in health and wellness so kinesiology was a perfect fit. I have goals to become a registered dietitian and I feel that what I have learned in this major will be very beneficial for my future education and career.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

Besides softball, I have been involved in the Ski and Board Club, and was even the president for a while, and you may also catch me making coffee at the Global Cafe on campus.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

Taylor Swift is my all time fave, but I also have recently been obsessed with Megan Moroney and Noah Kahan.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

The biggest thing I have taken away from being a student athlete at Central is the importance of hard work and mental toughness. Especially with coming back from an injury I have learned that good things come with time and it’s the little things you do everyday that make a difference. I have also learned to be grateful for every moment you get to step on the field or spend time with your teammates because it flies by. It’s a privilege to get to play a sport in college, so you can’t take anything for granted.

Best and worst Halloween costumes of your life?

The best has to be when I was Hannah Montana in fourth grade.

The worst was probably when I wore a giant M&M costume to my middle school Halloween dance. Not my most fashionable moment lol.

Biggest pet peeve?

I can’t stand loud chewers, slow walkers are definitely a close second though.

Favorite Central softball team tradition?

My favorite CCSB tradition is our pregame cheers. Right before lineups are announced, we have a few cheers that we do as a team, we even get the crowd to join us. Being able to have fun with my teammates right before the game helps get any pre-game jitters out and reminds me to play like a kid.

Teammate who should be social media famous?

Chloe Dougherty, go follow @captured.by.chloemae on instagram!

Favorite TV Show

I’m a big New Girl fan and me and my roommates are currently on Season 6 of Game of Thrones.

What’s it like to play for Coach Wares?

I am so grateful to get to play for Coach Wares, he truly is one of the best. He pushes me everyday physically and mentally. Playing for Coach Wares has not only allowed me to grow as a player but also as a person. He has such a great understanding of the mental aspect of the sport and has taught me lessons I will use long after I’m done playing softball.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Central softball team?

My favorite part about being a member of CCSB is the culture. My teammates are my best friends and the moments I get to share spending time with them, I wouldn’t trade for the world. I love all of our traditions and how they not only bring us closer as teammates but also connect us with the alumni.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

In 10 years from now I hope to be a registered dietitian. I’ve always wanted to travel so maybe I’ll be living someplace cool like Colorado or Montana. I also want to have lots of pets; definitely a dog and maybe some horses and farm cats.
