Ethan Gordon
Pella, Iowa
Class of 2025

Why did you choose Central?

It was close to home and it has a really good business program. I also knew I would like to continue my golf career and going to Central would give me the opportunity to do so.

Favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor would have to be Stan Dahl. He is a music professor and a drum instructor. The classes I’ve had with him have always been fun. We had the chance to play a bunch of different instruments and learn about music from all around the world. I also took drum lessons with him which have been a blast.

You’re majoring in Accounting and Business Finance because? (fill-in the blank with your major)

I am good with numbers and like managing money. There is also a high demand for accountants, so setting myself up for a successful career would also factor into my decision to major in accounting and finance.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

I am not involved in any other things besides golf. I referee high school and college basketball in the winter so that takes up a lot of my time. I am also a flagman at the Knoxville Raceway in the spring and summer so I keep myself busy outside of school.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

Rush would be my number one go-to band to listen to. My teammates have gotten to know how big of a Rush fan I am on golf trips when I sneak it into the playlist. I also like The Police, which would probably be my second go-to band to listen to. But really any classic rock band is a good listen.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

Being a part of the golf team has impacted my life in so many ways. I have got to meet and play golf with so many people, make new friends, and have a lot of good memories and laughs.

Which club out of your bag do you trust the most?

My favorite club right now would have to be my driver. It is crucial for setting me up in a good position for my approach shot. Getting a tee shot into the fairway consistently makes the difference from being able to score well on a golf course and not shooting a good score.

Favorite player to watch play golf on TV?

My favorite player to watch would have to be Phil Mickelson. He is a really good short game player and his flop shots are pretty sick.

How did you get started as a basketball referee?

I was always interested in officiating basketball from a young age. I played basketball early in high school but didn’t turn out to be very good at playing. So I started officiating instead in my junior year of high school doing freshman and JV games. After I graduated high school I transitioned into doing full time varsity basketball both at the high school and collegiate levels.

Favorite course you’ve ever played?

My favorite course would have to be one that we got to play during spring break this year. We had the privilege of playing The Vaquero Golf Club. It is a very private high class course in Texas where PGA tour players as well as celebrities are members at. It was pure from tee to green with an awesome clubhouse and practice facility as well.

Favorite TV Show

My favorite TV show would have to be Suits. It is a fictional show based in New York City following a law firm and all of the cases that it takes on.

What’s it like to play for Coach Blasi?

Playing for Coach Blasi has been great. He goes above and beyond what is expected of a division three college coach. He cares about us outside of golf and is a great swing coach on top of that.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Central men’s golf team?

My favorite part is being a role model to the younger players on the team. Being the oldest on the team and sharing my knowledge and experience with the incoming players has been a blessing. If I can help guide our freshman, even just a little, into becoming the best possible player they can be here at Central it would be really cool and feel like I am giving back to the team.\\

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

I hope I have progressed through the ranks of a company and have become a CFO or Partner for a tax firm. I also hope to have a wife and be happily married with a couple of kids. I would also like to still be playing golf with my friends and past teammates at Central and go on golf trips with them yearly.

Favorite food from Central Market

My favorite food would have to be build your own burger bar. I also enjoy fresh cookie Tuesday.

Bucket list

I would love to play a bunch of PGA tour courses around the United States with my friends and family. I would also like to officiate at the division one level for womens college as well as work the Iowa high school state basketball tournament. Another bucket list item would be to flag for a nationally touring sprint car series like the World of Outlaws or High Limit Racing Series.
