Why did you choose Central?

I chose Central because nothing else gave me the feeling of home like Central. It just felt right from meeting students and professors there to the beautiful campus Central just had that x-factor I was looking for…. Also the cafeteria had a soft serve ice cream machine, which was a must-have.

Favorite professor and why?

Dr. Benedict. He is my advisor so he has been with me since day 1, and he is a field biology wizard, which is something I really enjoy.

Who are your go-to musical artists?

If I were on a desert island and had to choose 3 artists to listen to for the rest of my life I would go Imagine Dragons, Kenny Chesney, and One Republic

You’re majoring in biology because?

My major is biology and I chose that coming in because I wanted to be a doctor. However, once I got here I found out that field biology is way better than people and I stuck with it to learn all about the wild life on earth.

If you could master one skill that you don’t have right now, what would it be and why?

Sleep. I mean I am pretty decent at sleeping right now, but if I could master it so each time I slept I got maximum benefit I could be awake more. Also a master sleeper could fall asleep and wake up on command so that would be super cool. You know what they say though practice makes perfect so I will be working to refine my sleeping skills.

Biggest pet peeves?

I think everyone can relate to this specifically. Imagine your driving in your 1990 red Toyota pickup listening to KSUX 105.7 country radio and you start driving east on the highway to go fishing at Southwoods and you reach the bottom part of the Loess Hills when the song “Summertime” by Kenny Chesney is starting to play, but KSUX just won’t come into the radio anymore so you try and listen to the song through the increasing static, but it is futile. You switch to some other second-rate station like Y-101.3 and listen to some Dolly Parton song for 5 minutes while the anthem of summer is on a different station. I think that’s my biggest pet peeve. Oh also when people borrow a pencil and don’t give it back.

What are you up to this summer?

I have a Naturalist internship with the Woodbury County Conservation board where I will primarily be working at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center in Sioux City. I will also be umpiring little league where I will be ringing up little kids all day long. Beyond that just working out should round out my 3-month vacation.

What was your first detention for?

My charming good looks and smooth tongue kept me out of trouble most times, and I snuck through high school without a detention. The closest I ever came was putting my Freshman English Teacher’s, Miss Williams, stapler in jello. That was a real classic. That same year I also put a phone in her ceiling and had someone call it every 5 minutes. Both times I probably should have gotten a detention, but alas I did not.

What is your favorite place to eat in the world?

817 4th Street, Sloan, Iowa. Also known as my mom’s kitchen. Joni Greder is Iowa’s best cook hands down. My favorite meal she makes is a tie… between all of them.

Teammate who would kill it in karaoke?

Nobody will every beat a Ryan Garrett duet with himself. The man kills it every time.

Favorite TV Show

The Office will forever own my heart.

What’s one thing people might not know about Coach Schirm?

Coach Schirm absolutely crushes the dad jokes. They are always at the most random times too, which makes it even better.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central Baseball?

It’s cliché but the brothers I have met here. There are few relationships that I have made that even come close to the countless ones I have made with my teammates here. As the musical Wicked says “because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” That is how I feel about all of the guys I have met on the baseball team.

“Ten years from now I’ll...”

Have more than $12.00 hopefully. To make that money I will need a job, which will hopefully be as an environmental lawyer. If that doesn’t happen I think I will fall back on being a traveling salesman that doubles as a travel journalist during the day and a master sleeper by night. I would then use my sleep skills to have the most efficient sleep of all time, which I would then use to take over the world. But yeah, hopefully more than 12 dollars.

Favorite food from Central Market

It’s a tie between the chicken fried steak, the big country barbecue, or breakfast for dinner. Breakfast for breakfast is okay but if you serve breakfast food after 5 PM it is a scientific fact that its nutritional and taste value goes up by 328% on average.

Bucket list

I am a simple man with simple tastes. All I want to do before I die is develop a technology to resize animals, specifically sea horses. From there resize a sea horse to normal horse size. From there I would then develop a way to ride said sea horse and become the first sea cowboy. After I set up my underwater ranch I could die peacefully among my underwater livestock. I don’t think that is too much to ask.
