Abigail Stelk
Bettendorf, Iowa
Class of 2027

Why did you choose Central?

I chose Central because I fell in love with the campus when I got there and I loved how supportive all the staff and professors were when I visited. I also really liked their education program that they offer there. My older brother also attended Central and I grew up coming to Pella and I have loved the school since I was little.

Favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor has to be Mary Stark. She is very supportive with everything you do. Mary is an easy to talk to person and will always have a conversation with you about being into reading or even about your sport you are in. Mary Stark’s classes are always a joy to be in.

You’re majoring in elementary education because?

Elementary Education because I have a passion for helping and inspiring little kids and teaching them new things they will use in life. I have always looked up to my teachers growing up and them being such an inspiration. Teaching little kids brings me so much joy and makes me happy to know they are learning new things I will one day teach them.

Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?

I am not really involved in anything besides athletics on campus, but i have tried Zumba and it was so much fun to do with my friend Sydney on the cheer team

Who are your go-to musical artists?

I don’t have a specific go-to artist but I love all country music with a little rap/pop music here and there.

How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?

I have made my closest friends through Central Cheer, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I get to continue a sport I love with my closest friends.

Why did you start cheerleading?

I started cheerleading when I was in 7th grade.growing up i loved looking up to the high school cheerleaders hoping one day i would be like them, and that dream became true. I have learned so many lessons and new skills but most importantly I have made long lasting friendships. Cheerleading is a big part of my life and it is a part of who I am.

Would you rather live on the beach or in the mountains?

I would rather live on the beach so I can always be tan. It is also warm there the majority of the time and I do not like to be cold.

Teammate who would make it on American Idol?

I would say Maggie Williams because i can picture her out there singing her heart out to Lil Tecca

If you could have lunch with anybody in the world, who and where?

I would have lunch with Thomas Rhett at Sports Fans (restaurant Bettendorf IA) because I have seen him in concert a few times and his story about how he started to singe because his family was his inspiration

Favorite TV Show

I have two favorite TV shows which are Last Man Standing and Seinfeld. My family and I love to watch these two shows together all the time

What’s it like to work with Coach Gbogbo?

Coach Lexi is one of the best coaches I personally have had. She pushes us to be our best and to show off what we can do. She always will make us smile at out 5:30am practices. Lexi is the most kind and loving person and will be there for you no matter what.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Central cheerleading team?

All the things you get to experience and how class you become with the girls on the team. You get to travel to different colleges in our ARC for a competition but later get to go to Daytona Beach Florida for the NCA nationals. In my opinion the bonds you make, make the experience ten times more fun because you are with your best friends through all of it.

What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

I would hope i have a good job that i enjoy doing and living my best life

Favorite food from Central Market

I would have to agree with Sydney and Maggie with fruit pizza… but I also really like when we have breakfast for dinner

Bucket list

-Travel to Greece with family and friends

-Attend more county concerts

- Go to Nashville Tennessee
