Kate Pachner
Class of 2023
Akron, Colorado
Why did you chose Central?
I grew up in a small town. My graduating class only had 32 students! I knew I wanted a small school feel and I wanted to play volleyball. Central turned out to be a perfect fit.
Favorite professor and why?
I love all of my education professors. They are all so supportive. They all genuinely want to get to know me and want the best for me. Also, the snacks they bring during block 2 are A+!
You’re majoring in elementary education because?
I always knew I wanted to help people in my career, but I didn’t know what that would look like. Originally, I came to central planning to major in psychology, but on a whim, I took the class ‘Children with Exceptionalities’ with Tammy Strawser and I was hooked. From then on, I knew I wanted to be a teacher to help kids unlock the door to their full potential, and let them know that someone cares about them.
Besides athletics, what else are you involved in on campus?
I am in the Central Teaching Academy, so I spend a lot of time with 5th graders at Jefferson Intermediate. I also attend a lot of FCA events on campus because it is a great way to deepen my faith as well as connect with other athletes on campus.
Who are your go-to musical artists?
I love KB! He is a Christian rapper, which sounds cheesy, but trust me he has some great bops to work out to.
How has attending Central and playing a sport impacted your life?
Central volleyball has truly brought me my best friends. As a freshman from out of state I was really nervous about making friends, but from the moment I stepped on campus I had 30 friends in my teammates. Being a part of a team has provided me with a community of amazing women that I am so proud to know and call my friends.
Most underrated part about growing up in Colorado?
The weather! Colorado is not nearly as cold as Iowa. It is very dry so, it may be the same temperature on the thermometer, but in Iowa the humidity makes it feel soooo much colder!
Favorite place you’ve ever traveled to?
Hawaii was hands down my favorite vacation.
Teammate who needs to go on America’s Got Talent and what would they do?
Makenna Hall for falling asleep literally anywhere at any time.
What does your perfect sandwich look like?
This is really weird but one of my favorite sandwiches is wheat bread with peanut butter and dill pickles. Don’t knock it ‘til you try it.
Favorite TV Show
The Office! Dwight is my favorite character and my favorite episode is ‘The Injury’. My favorite quote is when Michael asks Dwight (who is concussed at the time) what his middle name is and Dwight replies with, “Danger”.
What’s your favorite part about being a member of Central volleyball?
My teammates are what makes Central volleyball so great. They are funny, caring, genuine, and make it easy to show up every day.
What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
In ten years I hope to be working in education, coaching, and have a family.
Favorite food from Central Market
Fruit pizza is my favorite! I probably eat way too many every time they have them.
Bucket list
Go to Mexico, Go to Spain, hike Long’s Peak, run a half marathon
