PELLA — Central College placed 34 student-athletes on the winter sports American Rivers Conference all-academic team, announced Friday.

Across the league, 300 total student-athletes were honored.

Six Central student-athletes were recognized for the third time: women's basketball player Jasmyn Williams (senior, Commerce City, Colo., Arvada West HS); men's wrestlers Elijah Belzer (senior, Wapello), Kale Downey (senior, Clarinda), Trent Harper (senior, Norwalk), and Sam West (senior, Burlington, Notre Dame HS); and cheerleader Sydney Buseman (senior, Hampton, Hampton-Dumont HS) were all selected for the third time

An additional eight student-athletes earned their second academic all-conference honor: men's basketball players Bradley Curren (junior, Harlan), Alex Ruba (junior, Ames) and Patrick Weyrauch (junior, Glendale, Ariz., Sunrise Mountain HS); women's basketball players Kaitlyn Mumm (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) and Abbey Bence (junior, Burlington, West Burlington HS); women's wrestler Esther Belzer (senior, Kalona, Hillcrest Academy); cheerleader Madison Craig (senior, Solon); and dancer Lanee Hall (junior, Van Meter, Winterset HS).

To qualify for the distinction, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with one year at his/her current school, achieve a 3.5 GPA or better and compete at the varsity level.
