PELLA— A solid week for Central College athletics is capped off with two Player of the Week award winners from the American Rivers Conference—
Allie Pfantz (sophomore, State Center, West Marshall HS) for Women's Golfer of the Week and
Alejo Marcon (senior, Resistencia, Argentina, Pella Christian HS) for Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
The Dutch women's golf team traveled to Storm Lake for the Buena Vista University Fall Invitational where Pfantz won the individual title. Over the course of two rounds, Pfantz shot an impressive 155, with a 77 in the first round and a 78 in the second. This was good enough for a first-place finish, three strokes ahead of the tournament's runner-up. Central as a team placed fifth out of ten teams. This tournament capped off the fall regular season for the golf team, as the next meet will be the American Rivers Conference Championships, starting on October 11.
Central's men's soccer team traveled to Rock Island, Illinois on Tuesday, September 16 to play Augustana College and then to Menomonie, Wisconsin on Saturday, September 20 to play the University of Wis.-Stout. Central won both games, and in the first game against Augustana, Marcon assisted on one of the two Dutch goals. In the second game, Marcon tallied a game-winning goal off a corner kick to give the Dutch a 1-0 victory. He also made two crucial clearances at the goal line to maintain Saturday's shutout.
The Dutch play at home against Cornell College at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24., where they'll look to extend their winning streak to three.
