Box Score SAINT PETER, MINN.— Two Central College men's tennis athletes advance from the ITA Midwest Regionals first round.
The tournament is being hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) and all the best players from the region compete.
In the Singles bracket
Nick Scott (5th-year, Fort Benton, Mont., Great Falls Central Catholic HS) won his first-round match to Jonah Friedmann from Lawrence College (Wis.) 6-1, 6-1. In the second round Scott lost to the No. 5 overall seed Wilder Cooke from Grinnell College 6-1, 6-1.
Ayden Fletcher (senior, Waukee) also won his first-round match to Ethan Wurtzel from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire 2-6, 6-1, 10-5. In his next match Fletcher lost to the No. 9 overall seed Dominik Knutson from Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) 6-2, 6-0.
AJ Wilkins (senior, Grinnell) lost to Andres Saavedra from MSOE 6-2, 6-4.
In the doubles bracket Scott and Wilkins defeated to a duo from Concordia-Moorhead University (Minn.) 8-5. Fletcher played with
Alex Slaymaker (sophomore, Geneseo, Ill.) and they lost to a duo from Luther College 8-2. Scott and Wilkins will play a duo from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday.
Athletes who did not qualify for the main draw competed in the Midwest Open. In the doubles tournament
Travis Subbert (sophomore, McKinney, Texas, North HS) and
Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy (sophomore, Kerrville, Texas, Tivy HS) received a first-round bye and then went on to defeat a duo from Wis.- Eau Claire 8-5. They will play a duo from Cornell College in the third round.
The players return to the court Saturday when they finish out the tournaments.
