Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS—
Gavin Jablonski (sophomore, Marshalltown) was the lone champion for the Central College men's tennis team at the American Rivers Individual Championships Saturday.
Jablonski won the C-Flight of singles when he defeated Sean Sonoiki from Loras College 4-1, 4-1.
Jack Briggs (freshman, Pella) also made a final, but he came up short in the B-Flight of singles when he lost 4-2, 0-4, 7-10 to the No. 2 seed from Coe College.
Mason McBratney (sophomore, Kansas City, Mo., Platte County HS) clinched third place in the E-Flight when he defeated teammate
Carson Gardner (freshman, Parkville, Mo., Park Hill HS) 5-4 (7-0), 4-2.
In the doubles tournament
Travis Subbert (sophomore, McKinney, Texas, North HS) and
Benny Ramker (freshman, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock) lost 6-4 in the B-Flight final to the No. 1 seed from Coe. In the same flight Briggs teamed up with
Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy (sophomore, Kerrville, Texas, Tivy HS) to win the third-place match 7-6 (7-2).
The final medal for the squad came when
Donovan Klish (freshman, Liberty, Kan., North HS) and
Hayden Sinclair (sophomore, Ames) took third place when they defeated a duo from the University of Dubuque 7-5.
"This team fought for every single point," coach
Ryun Ferrell said. "We played cleaner, crisper and smarter today. They played free today which is great to see."
The squad has one more competition in its fall season when a select few players will play in the ITA Midwest Regional Championship Friday and Saturday.
