WAVERLY—Slightly tamer winds produced lower scores as the Central College women's golf team improved by 23 shots over Saturday's round in taking seventh at the 11-team Wartburg Spring Invitational Sunday.
The Dutch, who had to battle 25-mph wins Saturday, finished at 365-342—707. St. Catherine University (Minn.) had a dominant showing in winning with 332-311—643, 23 shots better than second-place Grinnell College. The American Rivers champion University of Dubuque was third at 334-334—668.
Peyton Bytnar (senior, Bettendorf) was 18th at 85-85—170, while
Parker Stout (junior, Lowden, North Cedar HS) shot 90-84—174.
Mackenzie Biggs (senior, Bloomington, Ill., Normal HS) also improved with 97-84—181,
Lydia Grond (junior, Hull, Boyden-Hull HS) shot 93-89—182 and
Rachel Sohn (senior, Sutherland, South O'Brien HS) had 100-91—191.
Central's second unit tied for 10th at 412-400—812.
Mickey Martens (freshman, Villa Park, Ill., Willowbrook, Ill.) shot 101-91—192.
The Dutch travel to Normal, Illinois for the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling at the par-72 Ironwood Golf Course next Saturday and Sunday. Central was 10th in a 19-team field there last year.
