NORMAL, ILL.—The Central College women's golf team shaved seven strokes off its first-round score but remained 15th in the 21-team Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling Sunday.
Competing at the par-72 Ironwood Golf Course,
Mackenzie Biggs (senior, Bloomington, Ill., Normal HS) fired a 76 to finish at 78-76—154, tying for 16th in the 36-hole tourney as she nears the end of a stellar career.
Central shot 338-331—669. The host school, No. 12-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University, took the title at 288-293—581, 17 shots better than No. 11 St. Catherine University (Minn.), which had 303-295—598. No. 18 Carleton College (Minn.) slipped a notch to third at 298-321—619. The only other American Rivers team in the field, Wartburg College, remained 17th at 350-344—694.
Stout (junior, Lowden, North Cedar HS) shot 83-84--167,
Peyton Bytnar (senior, Bettendorf) had 87-82--169,
Lydia Grond (junior, Hull, Boyden-Hull HS) shot 90-89--179 and
Rachel Sohn (senior, Sutherland, South O'Brien HS) shot 92-91—193.
The Dutch close the abbreviated spring season with the Battle at Bos next Saturday and Sunday at Pella's par-72 Bos Landen Golf Club.
