CRETE, NEB. — In the first indoor track & field action of the season, Central College junior
Olivia Bohlen (junior, Belle Plaine) won the women's pentathlon at the Doane Happy Holidays Multi-Event Sunday.
Bohlen totaled 3,275 points to win in a field of 10 athletes. Josie Garrett of Doane was second with 3,155 points.
"Starting off the season with a win is great for Olivia," assistant coach
Aaron Fuller said. "This meet always has quality competition with programs that care about developing multi-event athletes."
She had the competition's best shot put at 35 feet, 10 inches, which bested the field by over three feet. Fuller was especially happy with her third-place finish in the high jump (5 feet, 1.25 inches).
"She's worked hard on high jump, and it was exciting to see her tie her PR this early in the year," he said.
Sophomore
Sage Austin (Carlisle) finished 10th with 1,825 points. Her score was hampered by taking a zero in the long jump after fouling on all three attempts.
"Sage is learning a lot," Fuller said. "I'm excited to see how she develops moving forward."
The full Central track and field squad will compete Friday at the Dutch Holiday Preview, a meet Central is hosting in the H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse starting at Noon.
