PELLA — The Central College men's and women's track and field squads landed 24 student-athletes on the All-Midwest Region list for the outdoor season announced by the USTFCCCA Wednesday.
To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top eight of an individual event in the region or be part of a top-eight relay team. This is an expanded list from previous years.
Fourteen Dutch men were cited across eight events, including all six of Central's national qualifiers:
Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk) in the 1,500 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase;
Kale Hobart (junior, Mason City) in the decathlon and 110-meter hurdles;
Lance Bunde (sophomore, Guthrie Center, ACGC HS) in the high jump,
Gunner Meyer (senior, Fairbank, Wapsie Valley HS) in the 110-meter hurdles and high jump,
Gavin Smith (senior, Audubon) and
Gage Huyser (senior, Pella) in the decathlon.
Additionally,
Donovan Card (junior, Norwalk) was recognized in the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Owen Tomko (junior, Costa Mesa, Calif., Fountain Valley HS) in the long jump,
Landon Pote (freshman, Ankeny) in the decathlon and
Grant Miller (senior, Norwalk) in the javelin throw. The 4x400-meter relay team of
Elijah Ajiri (freshman, Urbandale), Gabe Feldmann (junior, Mount Pleasant), Jimmy Seeman (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) and
Jrake Van Hemert (senior, Pella) were also included.
On the women's side,
Peyton Steffen (senior, Marion) was chosen individually in the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Olivia Bohlen (senior, Belle Plaine) picked up honors in the heptathlon and 100-meter hurdles.
Ava Parkins (junior, Monmouth, Ill., Burlington Notre Dame [Iowa] HS) was cited in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Also honored as individuals were
Emily McMartin (senior, Pella) in the 200-meter dash,
Sage Austin (junior, Carlisle) in the javelin throw,
Karlee Warnke (junior, Primghar, South O'Brien HS) in the long jump and
Shayla Greeley (freshman, Riceville) in the heptathlon.
Parkins, McMartin, Warnke and
Mary Gustason (senior, Marion, Linn-Mar HS) were tabbed as an all-region 4x100-meter relay team. Parkins, McMartin,
Alivia Roerdink (junior, Tiffin, Ohio, Hopewell-Loudon HS) and
Kennedy Petersen (freshman, Story City, Roland-Story HS) were recognized as a 4x400-meter relay unit.
Central's national qualifiers will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin this weekend.
