LA CROSSE, WIS. — A strong first day at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday saw Central College student-athletes qualify for the 3,000-meter steeplechase final.
Peyton Steffen (senior, Marion) is the top qualifier for the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase by winning the first qualifying heat in 10 minutes, 23.53 seconds. She'll run the final on Friday night.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk) also advanced to the final. He qualified sixth in 8:59.87.
Through four events of the women's heptathlon,
Olivia Bohlen (senior, Belle Plaine) sits in second place with 3,087 points, just seven points behind the leader. She ran a career-best 14.16 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. It's also a new school record. She added a season-best high jump of 5 feet, 2.25 inches.
Kale Hobart (junior, Mason City) is also in second place at the halfway point of the men's decathlon with 3,800 points.
Gage Huyser (senior, Pella) is seventh with 3,595 points and
Gavin Smith (senior, Audubon) is 15th with 3,443 points.
Central's women's 4x400-meer relay team of
Alivia Roerdink (junior, Tiffin, Ohio, Hopewell-Loudon HS), Emily McMartin (senior, Pella), Kennedy Petersen (freshman, Story City, Roland-Story HS) and
Ava Parkins (junior, Monmouth, Ill., Burlington Notre Dame [Iowa] HS) narrowly missed qualifying for the finals, taking 10th in the prelims in 3:46.55
