Box Score 4 PELLA — Competing with a young contingent of athletes, the Central College men's tennis team lost 8-1 against the University of St. Mary (Kan.) Saturday.
With most of its top players competing on the second day of the ITA Division III Midwest Regional, the Dutch (0-2) featured five freshmen in doubles with three freshmen, two sophomores and one junior in the singles lineup.
"I thought we looked pretty good," coach
Ryun Ferrell said. "We were just a pretty young group today."
Hayden Sinclair's (freshman, Ames) 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 victory at No. 5 singles was the lone point for the Dutch.
"He played tough," Ferrell said. "That's some of the best tennis I've seen him play."
In consolation action at the regional meet,
AJ Wilkins (junior, Grinnell) went 2-1 in singles.
Ayden Fletcher (junior, Waukee) and
Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy (freshman, Kerrville, Texas, Kivy HS) both also went 1-1.
"This weekend was some of the most wins we've had at that regional meet in my time here," Ferrell said. "I'm really excited about what we were able to do."
Central will wrap up the fall portion of the season with a 4 p.m. dual in Des Moines against Morningside College next Friday.
