PELLA—Strong play down the stretch carried Grinnell College past the Central College women's golf team 4.5-0.5 for the title at the Battle of Bos match play tournament Sunday at the Bos Landen Golf Club.
Only
Delaney Underwood (junior, Mitchellville, Colfax-Mingo HS) was able to score for the Dutch as her match at the No. 2 position ended all square.
Wartburg College was a 5-0 winner over Coe College in the third-place match.
"I feel like we played pretty well," coach
Tabitha Schumacher said. "We battled. But Grinnell is probably a top-six team in our region and is a team that's going to nationals."
Schumacher didn't think the final score was reflective of Central's performance.
"All those matches were pretty close at one point and it really could have gone either way until the end," she said. "That's how match play works. It's always exciting."
The Dutch will see Grinnell again as they close their spring schedule next weekend
at the Grinnell College Golf Course. The two teams will be joined by Illinois College for a triangular Saturday before playing a dual Sunday.
"I think it's a definitely a lot flatter course than Bos Landen," Schumacher said. "It's a lot more straightforward. We haven't played it before but I think it will be a little friendlier for scoring."
