Central men get doubles victories at regional tennis competition

Box Score SAINT PETER, MINN. — Competing in consolation matches at the USTA/ITA Division III Midwest Regional Saturday, the Central College men's tennis team picked up two doubles victories.

The tandem of William Isiminger (junior, West Aurora, Ill., North Aurora HS) and Brad DiLeo (sophomore, Iowa City, West HS) won their first match against a University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) team 8-2. They dropped their second match 8-5 against a Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) pairing.

"Both of their opponents were very sound and didn't give many opportunities," assistant coach Trevor Budewitz said. "We had some really amazing points but also some sloppier ones."

Tanner Finken (sophomore, Carroll, Kuemper Catholic HS) and Ethan St. John (junior, Crystal Lake, Ill., Central HS) were victorious against a Loras College team 8-3 before losing to a different team from Gustavus Adolphus 8-6.

"They actually broke serve in the Gustavus match to take the lead 6-5," Budewitz said. "They fought really hard the entire match. I would have liked to see them serve it out, but there still a bunch of positives to take away."

The fall season is over for the Dutch men. They will start the spring season with a match at Bethel University (Minn.) on January 29.
