CEDAR FALLS—Ahead of his junior season with the Central College men's golf team,
Carter Yurgae (West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) shared 10th place at the 124th Iowa Amateur Men's Golf Championship this week.
Playing on the par-72 course at Beaver Hills Country Club in Cedar Falls, Yurgae carded a 70-73-70—213. He finished 3 under par, improving by 10 spots during the final round on Thursday.
Owen Sawyer of Iowa State University was the individual medalist at 16 under. He earned an exemption into the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship held at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
In 11 events with the Dutch during the 2025-26 season, Yurgae had a trio of top-three finishes. He shared first-place honors in a crowded field of 255 golfers at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in April with 71-69—140 score that was good for 3 under par. He also earned American Rivers All-Conference accolades for the first time by finishing fourth at the league championships.
