Dutch junior cards a 66

LEXINGTON, KY.— Carding a 66 in the third round of the Transylvania Fall Invitational on Sunday, Carter Yurgae (junior, West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS)  led the Central College men's golf team in their season opener.

Central took 17th as a team with 54-hole score of 312-308-296—916. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor won the team tile at 284-279-278—841.

"We knew coming into the tournament we would need to be at our best to be competitive in this field," coach Mel Blasi said. "Unfortunately, we just didn't have it yesterday."

Yurgae shared 31st place in a field of 87 golfers. He started with rounds of 79 and 74 Saturday but closed with a 66 Sunday, matching the lowest score in the tournament.

"He was spectacular today, making seven birdies with just one bogie," Blasi said. "He really rallied well after his first two rounds."

Crew Klingner (junior, Williamsburg tied for 74 th (78-73-78) and Lincoln Eighmy (senior, Carlisle) was 81 st (78-84-86). Bautista Valeiras (junior, Naples, Fla., Gulf Coast HS) and Brady Scalf (sophomore, Macomb, Ill.) both shared 82nd place with 54-hole total scores of 240.
