KOHLER, WIS.— After losing a round earlier in the season to rain, the Central College men's golf team did not get to play the full second round at the Whistling Straits Classic Tuesday after a persistent fog hung over the course.
In the first, and ultimately only, round of action Monday at the par-72 Straits Course, the Dutch shot 320 as a team to tie for 11th. Taylor University (Ind.) carded a 289 at the top of the leaderboard. Five golfers shot 71 to share individual medalist honors.
Carter Yurgae (West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) was Central's top golfer with a 76, sharing 20th place.
Lincoln Eighmy (senior, Carlisle) also tied for 31st with a 78.
Bautista Valerias (junior, Naples, Fla, Gulf Coast HS) tied for 53rd (81),
Maison Brandt (Byron, Ill.) tied for 74th (85) and
Crew Klingner (junior, Williamsburg) was 89th (89).
Day two was off to a promising start for Yurgae, who birdied his fourth hole of the day on No. 14. Golfers each played a few holes in a shotgun start format before the round was paused and not completed. Tuesday's second round suffered a similar fate to day two of the Wartburg Fall Invitational on September 27 which was not played due to rain and course conditions.
Central will wrap up the fall season with a trip to Galesburg, Illinois Saturday and Sunday for the Prairie Fire Invitational hosted by Knox College (Ill.).
