ALTOONA, WIS..— Competing in a field of 124 golfers from 22 schools at the Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Sunday and Monday, the Central College men's golf team placed 19th.
           
Central played at the par-71 Eau Claire Golf & Country Club in Sunday's first round and at the par-72 Wild Ridge Golf Course in Monday's second round. The host school won the team title at 290-294—584. Central carded a 319-324—643 for 19th place.
           
Maison Brandt (junior, Byron, Ill.) led the Dutch in a share of 57th place with a two-day score of 78-78—156. Carter Yurgae (junior, West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) had a great first day but struggled on day two, tying for 83rd (78-85—161). Crew Klingner (junior, Williamsburg) was next for Central in a tie for 88th (81-81—162).
           
"Our upperclassmen really struggled navigating the firm and fast conditions, especially around the greens," Blasi said.
           
Freshmen Logan Lacour (Grimes, Johnston) and Calvin Andresen (Marion) made their Central debuts. Andresen was tied for 106th (85-80—165) and Lacour was tied for 113th (84-86—170).
           
"It was nice to get them into the lineup and get their first tournament under their belts," Blasi said.
           
Playing as an individual, Brady Scalf (sophomore, Macomb, Ill.) tied for 78th (84-76—160).
           
"We will regroup, work hard and be ready to go in a couple of weeks," Blasi said.
           
The next varsity tournament for Central is set for September 26 and 27 at the Wartburg Fall Invitational.
