Central caps off strong weekend

LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN — Putting an exclamation point on a fantastic outdoor season, the Central College track and field teams both finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.

The Dutch men finished sixth with 23 points and the women placed ninth with 24 points. The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse swept the team trophies at their home facility. Central was the top finisher amongst American Rivers Conference schools.

It's Central's first top 10 men's finish since 2016 while the women were eighth in 2024.

Peyton Steffen (senior, Marion) added her second podium finish of the weekend, taking third in the women's 5000-meter run in 16 minutes, 32.38 seconds.

Gunner Meyer (senior, Fairbank, Wapsie Valley HS) stumbled near the end of his men's 110-meter hurdles race, but his time of 14.61 seconds still landed him on the All-American podium in eighth place.

Making her national meet debut, Sage Austin (junior, Carlisle) finished 22nd in the women's javelin throw with her mark of 99 feet, 11 inches.
