Men's Track and Field

Both Central track and field teams jump in national poll

Dutch men No. 5, women No. 12

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA — In the fourth USTFCCCCA Outdoor Checkpoint of the season released Tuesday, the Central College men's track and field team is up to No. 5 while the women jumped five spots to No. 12.

Points in the National Team Rating Index are based off placement in the National Descending Order Lists. The higher an athlete sits on the top-50 list, the more points he or she adds to his or her team's total. These points do not reflect placement or scoring at the NCAA Championships but are to show the individuals and teams that have the best chances at scoring well at said meet.

Seven of the 11 Central men's entries in the top-50 lists are among the 10 bests at their event. Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk) added two of them last week at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California, running the No. 2 1500 meters time (3:44.46) and the No. 3 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:51.60).

The Dutch women have 15 total marks in the top 50 nationally. Last week Peyton Steffen (senior, Marion) took over the No. 2 spot in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:17.90) and the 4x400-meter relay team ran a 3:50.03 to slot in at No. 8. The relay squad consists of Emily McMartin (senior, Pella), Alivia Roerdink (junior, Tiffin, Ohio, Hopewell-Loudon HS), Kennedy Petersen (freshman, Story City, Roland-Story HS) and Ava Parkins (junior, Monmouth, Ill., Burlington Notre Dame [Iowa] HS).

Central will run at the Drake Relays in Des Moines and the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College this week.
