MUNDELEIN, ILLINOIS — In a difficult field at the Forester Invitational hosted by Lake Forest College, the Central College men's golf finished 16th Saturday.
Playing on the Par-72 Prairie Course at the Countryside Golf Club in Mundelein, Illinois, Central carded a 312-310—622. Aurora University (Ill.), the No. 12 team in Division III, won the tournament in 286-284--570
"All in all, it was a really tough week for us," coach
Mel Blasi said. "It was our first time playing the golf ocurse, and we never did get comfortable with the wet and windy conditions."
Carter Yurgae (sophomore, West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) was the top finisher for the Dutch, trying for 38th place in 74-77—151.
Maison Brandt (sophomore, Byron, Ill.) was Central's No. 2 player in a tie for 49th place (77-76--153).
Also in Central's lineup were
Blake Wynn (senior, Milan, Ill., Sherrard HS) in 69th place (80-78—156),
Bautista Valeiras (sophomore, Naples, Fla., Gulf Coast HS) in 88th (81-81—162) and
Lincoln Eighmy (junior, Carlisle) in 98th (84-84—168)
Playing as an individual player,
Crew Klingner (sophomore, Williamsburg) finished tied for 57th after shooting 75-79—154.
Central now sets its sights on the American Rivers Conference Championships. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is Sunday, April 26 to Tuesday, April 28 at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines.
"We've had a good spring thus far with some good team finishes and great individual performances," Blasi said. "It will be important now for us to regroup and find our best golf heading into the conference championships. We have a capable group."
