Men's Track and Field

Four Dutch track & field records fall

Central has big weekend in two different locations

WAVERLY — Competing at the Wartburg Indoor Select and Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational the Central College men's and women's track and field team took down a quartet of program bests.

No team scores were held at either meet.

On Friday, the 4x400-meter relay squad Alivia Roerdink (junior, Tiffin, Ohio, Hopewell-Loudon HS, Kennedy Petersen (freshman, Story City, Roland-Story HS), Emily McMartin (senior, Pella) and Ava Parkins (junior, Monmouth, Ill., Burlington Notre Dame HS [Iowa]) was clocked in at 3:49.85. Not only did that mark set a school record, the quartet is ranked No. 1 in Division III. Because the NCAA Division III Championships will be held on a banked track, Friday night's mark is converted down to 3:46.84.

Parkins also became the first Dutch women to go under 57 seconds in the 400-meter dash, winning the race in 56.94 seconds.

Kale Purcell (fifth year, Holton, Kan.)  rewrote the indoor men's triple jump record with a leap of 49 feet, 0.75 inches.

Bohlen puts together best pentathlon – Erasing a school record that stood since 1979, Olivia Bohlen (senior, Belle Plaine) totaled 3,592 points as the only Division III entry in the field at Nebraska. She has the top qualifying total in the country as well.

Central is competing at the Darren Young Classic hosted by Grinnell College next weekend with a few distance athletes traveling to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
