Six individual conference champions for Central men

Dutch finish second as a team

DECORAH — After claiming titles in six individual events, the Central College men's track and field team was second at the American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.

The Dutch piled up 115 points to finish runner-up. Wartburg College won the title with 199 points.

Kale Purcell (fifth year, Holton, Kan.), who was named the league's Men's Field Events MVP after the meet, won the triple jump for the second year in a row with a mark of 49 feet, 0.75 inches. Lance Bunde (sophomore, Guthrie Center, ACGC HS) was the high jump champion after clearing the bar at 6-8.

On the track, Gunner Meyer (senior, Fairbank, Wapsie Valley HS) was the 60-meter hurdles champion in 7.95 seconds, and Jack Brown (junior, Norwalk)  was also a repeat champion with a time of 4 minutes, 10.63 seconds in the mile.

Gage Huyser (senior, Pella) claimed the league's heptathlon crown by compiling 4,780 points. Huyser gave Central its third title in the last five years in the event. Kyle Rogers (freshman, Elburn, Ill., Kaneland HS) won the pole vault title Friday night for Central's sixth individual champion.

Meyer was also the runner-up in the high jump with a mark of 6-6. Kale Hobart (junior, mason City) added a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.21 seconds) and Landon Pote (freshman, Ankeny) was third in the heptathlon with 4,664 points.
           
Central will send a select group of athletes to the Wartburg Final Qualifier next weekend in Waverly.
