PELLA — The Central College baseball team had multiple players receive College Sports Communicators Division III Academic All-District honors for the first time in program history Tuesday.

Brayden Sawyer (Grundy Center) was back on the list for a second time and senior
Caleb Douglass (Windsor, Colo.) was honored for the first time).
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve at the varsity level and achieve a 3.50 or better cumulative grade point average. Positions players must compete in at least 90% of games played or start in 66% of games played. Pitchers must pitch at least 25 innings or appear in 17 games.
Sawyer is a business management major with a 3.77 GPA. He started 37 of 38 games, including four starts on the mound. He led the Dutch with a .314 batting average and 49 hits. As a third baseman he had a .922 fielding percentage in 129 chances. He was 2-2 as a pitcher, logging 25.0 innings and striking out 20 batters.
Douglass finished his engineering degree with a 3.73 GPA. He started 32 games and split time between catcher and right field, recording a .170 batting average with 10 RBI.
The duo brings Central's total number of honorees up to 13 and gives the Dutch representation for the third consecutive year.
