PELLA — A 10th inning rally by the Central College baseball team sparked a pair of victories over the University of Dubuque Saturday.
Central (15-20, 10-11 American Rivers Conference) and Dubuque (12-23, 7-14 conference) were knotted at 2-2 after nine. Both Dutch runs came on a two-run double from Bryer Wiley (sophomore, second base, Urbana, Center Point-Urbana HS) in the fourth inning
In the 10th, Dubuque plated the go-ahead run on a sacrifice bunt to make it 3-2.
Dylan Williams (senior, first baseman, Woods Cross, Utah) led off the bottom half of the inning with a double to right field. Brayden Sawyer (senior, third baseman, Grundy Center) followed with an RBI single to tie the game.
Jaden Kramer (senior, right field, Cedar Falls) singled and Max Steinlage (senior, center field, Cedar Falls) was intentionally walked to load the bases. A strikeout and fielder's choice putout brought Wiley to the plate with the bases loaded. Wiley made it a three RBI game with his game-winning single to left center field.
Jackson Torbit (sophomore, St. Louis, Mo, Webster Groves HS) was the game one starting pitcher, allowing one earned run to score in 6.0 innings. Turner Williams (junior, Newton) would get the win after four innings of relief work. He scattered two hits and one walk, while striking out five.
In game two, Central started strong with six runs in the first inning and three in the second inning. Central had 12 hits, including four from Sawyer in the leadoff spot. Dylan Williams and left fielder Stephen Stufflebeam (junior, Macomb, Ill.) each had three RBI while Wiley added two more.
Sawyer was the winning pitcher, allowing four earned runs in 5.2 innings. Wiley added to his busy day by retiring the last four Spartans batters of the day on the mound.
Central completes its regular with a three-game series in Lincoln, Nebraska against Nebraska Wesleyan University next weekend.
