PELLA — With 11 wrestlers making championship bouts across 10 weight classes, the Central College men's wrestling team was dominant at its home Last Chance Invitational Friday night
There were 103 total wrestlers from nine different programs in action. It was an opportunity for most teams, including Central, to get reserve wrestlers some final competition before the postseason begins.
"Between last's night dual and tonight's tournament, everybody got a chance to wrestle," coach
Landon Williams said. "That was our goal to get everyone on the mat and we saw some good results tonight."
It was an all-Dutch final at both 141 pounds and 157 pounds.
Donovan Card (sophomore, Norwalk) took down
Luke Spaur (sophomore, Knoxville) in the 141-pound title match while
Duncan Delzell (fifth year, Burlington) pinned Elijah Belzer (junior, Wapello) for the 157-pound crown.
Other title winners for the Dutch were
Rheiner Stahlbaum (senior, Johnston) at 125 pounds,
Kevin Hogan (junior, Peotone, Ill.) at 165 pounds,
Colby Tool (senior, Reasnor, PCM HS) at 174 pounds,
Nathan Rosas (junior, Harvard, Ill.) at 184 pounds and
Kyler Hall (sophomore, Boones, Ames HS) at 285 pounds.
Bryson Spaulding (freshman, Villa Park, Ill., IC College Prep) also won a title in the 149-pound white bracket.
"It's always good to have our team win individual titles," Williams said. "We had some wrestlers do some good things."
Additionally, Central had runner-up finishes by
Ethan Skoglund (freshman, Sergeant Bluff, Sergeant Bluff-Luton HS) at 133 pounds and
Cael Cox (senior, Ankeny) at 149 pound
Central is off for two weeks before heading to Cedar Rapids for the NCAA Division III Region VI Championships.
