PELLA — Competing on their home track at the Dutch Winter Multi-Event, three members of the Central College track and field team recorded top-10 national marks.
Olivia Bohlen (junior, Belle Plaine) had the winning women's pentathlon score with 3,476 points. In the men's heptathlon,
Kale Hobart (sophomore, Mason City) was second with 5,019 points and
Reid Pakkebier (senior, Cedar Rapids, Kennedy HS) was third with 4,970 points
"Today was a great day," assistant coach
Aaron Fuller said. "Overall, we are very pleased with the results that came."
Bohlen had the top 60-meter hurdles time (9.15 seconds) and the best high jump mark (5 feet, 2.25 inches) while also winning the high jump and shot put. She sits No. 4 on the national qualifying list.
"Olivia put herself in a great position after the first two events and really took advantage," Fuller said.
Hobart became just the fourth athlete in Dutch track and field's illustrious multi-event history to score over 5,000 points in the heptathlon. All three of the other earned All-American honors in their career. He shared the best pole vault mark at 13-3.5. He's No. 4 on the national qualifying list.
"Kale showed how much hard work he has put in to learn the events," Fuller said. "It's a fantastic mark for a sophomore, especially after playing football in the fall. I'm excited to see where he goes from here."
Pakkebier had consecutive personal-best marks in the 60-meter dash (7.11 seconds) and the long jump (22-3.5) to start the meet and finished strong to reach No. 6 on the national qualifying list.
"Reid is really putting things together," Fuller said. "He was hitting his best marks or was around his PR's in all the events. He's a great leader for our group."
The rest of the Central College track & field team is competing Saturday in Waverly at the Wartburg Indoor Select meet. Field events start at 9 a.m. with running events at 10:30 a.m.
