BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS— A pair of Central College women's golfers are in the top 20 in a field of 124 golfers at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic after Friday's first round.
As a team Central, recorded a total of 319 and is in 12th place. Washington University – St. Louis (Mo.) is in first with a score of 285. The tournament is being held on the par-72, 5823-yard Ironwood Golf Course.
Parker Stout (senior, Lowden, North Cedar HS) led the Dutch with a first round 75 and is tied for 15th.
"She played smart and kept the ball in the fairway most of the day," coach
Tabitha Schumacher said. "Which is important at a tree-lined course like Ironwood."
Freshman
Allie Pfantz (freshman, State Center, West Marshall HS) was one stroke behind at 76 and is sharing 19th place.
"Allie had her PR even with a double and a triple bogey on her scorecard," Schumacher said.
Jaden Smith (junior, Marengo, Iowa Valley HS carded an 82 and
Mickey Martens (sophomore, Villa Park, Ill., Willowbrook HS) recorded an 86. Smith is tied for 55th and Martens is tied for 79th.
"Jaden also had a tournament record," Schumacher said.
This tournament allows six-player lineups and
Amber Timmer (freshman, San Diego, Calif., Mount Carmel HS) and is in a tie for 85th after shooting an 87 while
Lydia Grond (senior, Hull, Boyden-Hull HS is tied for 91st after shooting an 88.
"We had the ability to have a really special day, but we were searching for a fourth score," Schumacher said. "I feel confident we will have at least four solid scores tomorrow."
