AMES — Taking advantage of the facilities at Iowa State University, the Central College track and field teams had some strong marks with a small crew at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational Saturday.
Men's triple jumper
Kale Purcell (senior, Holton, Kan.) had a new personal-best mark of 47 feet, 4.5 inches to win. In the women's 3,000-meter race,
Peyton Steffen (junior, Marion) was victorious in a time of 9 minutes, 40.35 seconds.
Steffen's time is the fastest so far this season in Division III.
Addison Parrott (senior, Danville) was third in 9:52.46
In the women's 400-meter dash,
Emily McMartin (junior, Pella) was 13th in 59.55 seconds. Additionally,
Ava Parkins (sophomore, Monmouth, Ill., Burlington Notre Dame HS [Iowa]) was 14th (1:00.88) and
Lizzy Van Utrecht (sophomore, Ottumwa, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont HS) was 15 th (1:00.71). On the men's side,
Jrake Van Hemert (junior, Pella) was 14th in 50.80 seconds and
Gabe Feldmann (sophomore, Mount Pleasant) was 18th in 51.56.
Central will reset after the student's winter break with the Dutch Athletics Classic the next competition on January 17, 2025.
