PELLA— After capturing the American Rivers women's cross country crown, Central College's
Addison Parrott (senior, Danville) is the league's female athlete of the week.
Also cited were Dutch wide receiver
Ryan Neu (5th-year, West Des Moines, Valley HS), who was tabbed as the conference football offensive player of the week, and
Joe Brown (senior, midfielder, Norwalk) and
Spencer Taylor (junior, defender, Norwalk) who swept the men's soccer player of the week awards
Parrott, who received USTFCCCA All-America distinction last year, raced to first place in the 6,000-meter conference race at Cedar Rapids Saturday in a career-best 21 minutes, 34.2 seconds. Teammate
Peyton Steffen (junior, Marion) was second in 22:03.4. Parrott picked up all-conference honors for the second time after finishing seventh in last year's meet. She received the league's Most Valuable Performer Award.
Central placed second in the team standings for the second year in a row. The Dutch compete in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships Nov. 16 at Rock Island, Illinois.
Neu tied a school record, hauling in four touchdown passes in Central's 45-7 runaway over Loras College Saturday. He had nine catches for 174 yards overall. Neu had TD catches of 17, 54 and 31 yards in the second quarter and added a 31-yard score in the third period.
A two-time all-conference pick, he's the school career-record holder for touchdown catches with 42 and has eight this season, with 43 receptions for 690 yards overall. It's the second time he's received offensive player of the week recognition.
Central, 7-2, travels to Lincoln, Nebraska Nov. 16 to take on Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Brown was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week after he scored the go-ahead goal as the No. 6-seeded Central men's soccer team ousted Loras College from the American Rivers tournament, stunning the third-seeded Duhawks 3-1. It was Central's first-ever win at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque. A first-team all-conference selection in 2022, Brown scored off a corner kick in the game's 40th minute, his third goal of the season.
Taylor started the scoring in the victory over Loras with a goal in the sixth minute. He anchored the back line that limited the Duhawks to one goal. The junior was coming off an injury that held him out of the last two regular season game.
Central (8-8-2) travels to Waverly Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tournament semifinal match at No. 2 seed Wartburg College.
