GRINNELL—
Maddy Stevens (sophomore, Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS) and
Teah Miller (Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) finished 1-2 for the Central College women's cross country team as it won the Les Duke Invitational hosted by Grinnell College Saturday morning.
Central's team score of 33 outpaced the hosts from Grinnell's runner-up sum of 46.
"I thought we did a great job building through the race and working together," coach
Joe Dunham said. "We were challenged today by Grinnell. I was proud of the way we fought in the second half of the race."
Stevens won the 6,000-meter race in 23 minutes, 1.5 seconds. Miller was second in 23:29.4
Freshmen
Audrey Dummermuth (Johnston) and
Morgan Back (freshman, Van Meter, Winterset HS) contributed top 10 finishes in seventh (24:00.1) and ninth (24:01.5), respectively.
Brynn Wilson (Huxley, Ballard HS) completed the scoring lineup in 14th (24:23.2)
Also cracking the varsity seven were
Breckyn Petersen (sophomore, Glenwood) in 15th (24:26.8) and
Addison Dabroski (Marion) in 18th (24:37.6)
Central hosts the Dutch Open on Friday, September 25.
