PELLA — Hosting a dual at Roberts Creek, the Central College women's triathlon team dominated Coe College Saturday morning.
For the second time this season, the Dutch and Kohawks competed in a dual format and once again Central had each of its athletes finish before any Coe athletes crossed the line.
Strong wind conditions shortened the swim portion to 212 meters at Roberts Creek just west of Pella. The athletes then biked 15 kilometers and finished with a 5-kilometer run.
Adeline Koritz (freshman, Clinton, Ill.) finished first for the Dutch in 47 minutes and 27 seconds despite being the fourth athlete out of the water.
"She had a great race," Hedrick Rozenberg said. "She looked strong on all her disciplines. It was great to see her push the race."
Luci Laidlaw (junior, Pella) was next for the Dutch in 48:14 with
Grace Benson (Newton) close behind in 48:31.
"Luci stayed with the pack on the bike and had a great run helping to pace Addie to the end," Hedrick-Rozenberg said. "Grace raced hard. Her run was two minutes faster than last year."
Taylor Jones (Knoxville) had the fastest swim split in the field (3 minutes, 31 seconds) and completed the full race in 49:10
"A longer swim helps to push her ahead," Hedrick-Rozenberg said. "She still had a solid race."
Estella Allen (freshman, Newton and
Sara Sienkiewicz (junior, Plainfield, Ill., Neuqu Valley HS) also had strong performances in 52:46 and 57:04, respectively.
"Estella had an amazing bike," Hedrick-Rozenberg said. "She stayed with the lead pack and worked with them to elevate her own bike. Sara had a great swim, she was able to stay with the pack for over half the swim. She also had a solid bike and run."
The Dutch travel to Springfield, Missouri to compete in the USA Triathlon West Regional Qualifier with a trip to the national meet in Florida in November on the line.
