DEWITT, ILLINOIS — Competing in its biggest field of the season, the Central College triathlon team finished sixth at the Prairie State Cup Saturday morning.
The Dutch won all three dual meets it contested to start the season but saw the competition level increase with a 10-team field. NCAA Division II program Drury University (Mo.) was the overall team champion with 300 points. North Central College (Ill.) was the best amongst Division III programs with 281 points. Central was the third Division III team in the standings with 162 points.
The athletes completed a 750-mile swim in Lake Clinton before competing four loops (12 miles) on their bikes and running two loops for 3.2 miles.
Josie Delaney (senior, Hiawatha, Kan.) was once again Central's top finisher in 25th place with a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 19 seconds.
Olivia Ritter (freshman, Burlington, West Burlington HS) was next in for the Dutch in 1:15.57 and 29th place.
The other four Dutch athletes were in a tight pack as
Estella Allen (junior, Newton) was 40th (1:19.44),
Georgia Havlicek (senior, Solon) was 41st (1:19.51),
Abbey Bence (senior, Burlington, West Burlington HS was 43rd (1:20.37) and
Aubrey Peterson (sophomore, Coon Valley, Wis.) was 44th (1:21.30).
Central travels to Fort Worth, Texas for the USA Triathlon West Regional Qualifier on Sunday, October 18.
