PELLA — Starting the season with a pair of abbreviated races, the Central College triathlon team cruised to victory twice against Coe College Friday and Saturday.
During Friday's Splash and Dash, the athletes swam 250 meters indoors at the Pella Aquatic Center before running a mile outside in the parking lot.
Saturday's competition was reduced after bacteria in the water at Roberts Creek erased the swim portion. Instead, the athletes completed a 15-kilometer bike and 3.5 kilometer run on the Volksweg Trail.
Central outscored Coe 38-16 in Friday's event and 45-15 on Saturday.
Newcomer
Josie Delaney (senior, Hiawatha, Kan.) was the individual champion in both competitions. She won Friday in a time of 11 minutes and 19 seconds and crossed the line Saturday in 42:41.
Freshman
Olivia Ritter (freshman, Burlington, West Burlington HS) was the runner-up on Friday in 11:41.
Abbey Bence (senior, Burlington, West Burlington HS) was second Saturday in 17:05.
Central will complete the Fontana Triathlon hosted in Fontana, Wisconsin on Lake Geneva next Saturday.
