PELLA— Two seniors on the Central College triathlon team were awarded Scholar All-American accolades by the Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association Tuesday.
The Dutch also received Scholar All-American team status.
Individual Scholar All-American status is given to athletes who finish in the top 21 at the National Championship meet in their division and maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher during the fall semester. Honorable mention is given to any athlete with a 3.5 GPA who competes at the national meet. To earn the team award, programs must have a team GPA of 3.2 during the fall semester.
Luci Laidlaw (senior, Pella) and
Katelyn Freeman (senior, Castle Rock, Colo., Castle View HS) all earned Division III Scholar All-American accolades.
Laidlaw, an instrumental music education major maintained a 4.00 GPA in the fall and placed fifth in Division III at the national meet. Freeman, a triple major of economics, Spanish and mathematics, recorded a 3.90 GPA and took 20th place.
Estella Allen (sophomore, Newton), Grace Benson (senior, Newton), Georgia Havlicek (junior, Solon) and
Madi Whalen (senior, Kansas City, Mo., Park Hill HS) were also CTCA Scholar All-American honorable mentions.
Central was one of 35 teams to earn the Scholar All-American team honor.
