Dutch place 10 on academic list for track and field and cross country

Five All-Americans highlight academic honors for Central

PELLA — The Central College track and field and cross country programs had 10 student-athletes receive recognition on the College Sports Communicator Division III Academic All-District teams Wednesday morning.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve at the varsity level and achieve a 3.50 or better cumulative grade point average. All 10 are now under consideration for Academic All-America honors.

On the women's side Caroline McMartin (junior, Pella) and Megan Johnson (junior, Parkersburg, Aplington-Parkersburg HS) were named after participating with both teams. Abby Marr (senior, Riceville), Abbi Roerdink (junior, Tiffin, Ohio, Hopewell-Loudon HS) and Amber Vroman (sophomore, Seneca, Ill.) are track and field only athletes who were selected.

Men's decathletes Lucas Heitz (senior, Adel, ADM HS) and Brody Klein (senior, Rainier, Wash.) were track and field only selections. Distance runners Noah Jorgenson (junior, Sidney), Adam Sylvia (senior, Rochester, Mass., Old Rochester HS) and Derek Webster (sophomore, Norwalk) were cited for both sports.

McMartin was an All-American this season in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. Johnson, Klein and Jorgenson joined her as All-Americans at the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend. McMartin, Johnson and Roerdink were on a distance medley relay track and field squad that earned All-American honors during the indoor season.  Marr, Heitz and Sylvia also participated in the national indoor meet this season. Vroman set the school record for the women's pole vault during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
