PELLA — A strong second day secured the heptathlon title for Central College men's track and field junior
Brody Klein (Rainier, Wash.) at the Dutch Winter Multi Meet Friday night.
Klein won the 10-man field, besting the second-place finisher by 110 points and totaling 4,744 points. He was the top pole vaulter with a clearance of 14 feet, 11 inches.
"Brody vaulted really well," associate head coach
Jim Fuller said. "He set his indoor PR and tied his outdoor PR. He'd tell you he's not happy with his 60-meter hurdles time but it was the second best mark of his life. His total was 70 better than he's ever had before."
Lucas Heitz (senior, Adel, ADM HS) was third overall with a total of 4,619 points.
Jaxon Thompson (junior, Marion, Linn-Mar HS) was fourth with 4,567 points and
Reid Pakkebier (sophomore, Cedar Rapids, Kennedy HS) was fifth with 4,561 points.
"Lucas had a really solid day," Fuller said "It wasn't good as his score from December but this was mostly just a work out for him. Jaxon improved his lifetime best by about 40 points. He ran his 1,000 meters really well, it's been something he's really worked at. Reid had a good hurdle race and a PR in the 1000. It was a good vault for him. He had no experience at all in that coming and he gets better every week."
Central will send the rest of its team to the Spartan Invitational at the University ofvDubuque on Saturday.
