Central second in rain-shortened men's golf tourney

Tuesday round canceled, Dobernecker ties for fifth

MARION, ILL.— Heavy rains forced cancellation of Tuesday's final round and the Central College men's golf team closed in second place at the John A. Logan Fall Invitational.
           
The Dutch carded 297-295—592 Monday at the par-71 Kokopeli Golf Club as the tourney was shortened from 54 to 36 holes. National junior college power Indian Hills won with 287-281—568 while host John A. Logan College was third at 301-292—593 and Fontbonne University (Mo.) followed at 302-311—613 in the nine-team tourney.
           
Central's Harold Dobernecker (sophomore, Nevada) tied for fifth in the medalist standings at 73-70—145. Birgir Magnusson, an at-large entrant from Southern Illinois University, took first with 70-67—137.
           
The Dutch are off until the Central Fall Invitational Oct. 4-5 at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.
