DUBUQUE — Facing a one-loss University of Dubuque team, the Central College volleyball team succumbed 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 to the Spartans Saturday morning.
"We didn't come out playing to win and we didn't learn our lesson from last night's match," said coach
Jeanne Czipri.
Following the defeat, the Dutch drop to 8-11 overall and 1-3 in the Iowa Conference while the Spartans continue their strong season, improving to 19-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Dubuque's lone loss on the season came from Loras College in five sets.
Senior outside hitter
Kylie Gerstein (Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) and senior middle hitter
Jenna Dille (Carlisle) led Central with seven kills apiece. Gerstein also had six digs and three assists.
Junior setter
Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) had 15 assists and senior setter
Regan Nelson (Pella) contributed nine.
Freshman libero
DaLana Kron (West Branch) had 14 digs and senior outside hitter
Mollie Mason (Iowa City, West HS) added 11.
"We saw DaLana make some great plays and really turn the switch on, which was exciting to see," said Czipri.
The Dutch look to get back on the winning trail Friday night at 7:30 p.m. when the Kohawks of Coe College come to Pella for a league showdown. Coe is 1-2 in conference play and takes on Simpson College Tuesday night in Indianola. Live stats and video broadcast can be found at
