PELLA— A statistical double-double from senior outside hitter
Kylie Gerstein (Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) helped the Central College volleyball team extend its winning streak to six games Thursday night.
The Dutch (6-5 overall) defeated Iowa Wesleyan (1-5 overall) 25-16, 25-12, 24-26, 25-14.
"I'm happy that for most of the match we executed on some things we wanted to do and showed improvements in things we have been focusing on," said coach
Jeanne Czipri.
Gerstein captured her first double-double of the season with 12 digs and 11 kills.
"Kylie has put in a lot of work and continues to demand a lot from herself," said Czipri. "It's awesome to see that work pay off like it did tonight."
Senior outside hitter
Mollie Mason (Iowa City, West HS) finished with 10 kills and six digs. Mason's .412 attack percentage is her fourth straight game hitting above .300.
Senior middle hitter
Jenna Dille (Carlisle) and junior right-side hitter
Melissa Miller (Williamsburg) added nine kills apiece.
"I'm happy with our offensive and defensive play and the adjustments we made tonight," said Czipri.
Central had 55 kills compared to Iowa Wesleyan's 26 and had four players hit over .300.
Junior setter
Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) had 26 assists and senior setter
Regan Nelson (Pella) had 18.
There's no time to rest for the Dutch. The team heads to Rock Island, Ill. for a clash with Augustana College Friday evening. First serve against the Vikings (3-5 overall) is at 5 p.m. Central leads the series 11-7, including a 25-19, 29-27, 25-23 victory last season.
