ROCK ISLAND, ILL.— Central College junior right-side hitter
Melissa Miller (Williamsburg) broke out for a career-high 16 kills in a 20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 15-12 loss to Augustana College (Ill.) Friday night.
Miller's career night included only one error on 36 attempts.
"We did some things well tonight and I liked what I saw out of Mel tonight," said coach
Jeanne Czipri.
The Dutch had a chance to win the match after being up 12-9 in the fifth set but surrendered six straight points to the Vikings (4-5 overall).
"We fell short on a few things we needed to do tonight and Augustana played a strong defensive match," said Czipri.
Senior outside hitter
Kylie Gerstein (Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) had 11 kills and eight digs. Senior outside hitter
Mollie Mason (Iowa City, West HS) missed a statistical double-double by one kill after posting 19 digs and nine kills.
Junior setter
Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) quarterbacked the offense with 33 assists.
Defensive specialist
Brooke Caves (Oskaloosa) had 26 digs and a service ace.
Central gets back to Iowa Conference play Tuesday night, when it travels to Lincoln, Neb. for a matchup with Nebraska Wesleyan beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Prairie Wolves are coming off a three-set loss to Buena Vista Thursday night. The teams split the two matchups last season with the Dutch earning a 28-26, 25-18, 24-26, 25-22 win at the league tournament.
